    Default Snowy Fly-By

I spent 20-30 minutes photographing a Snowy Owl on a perch, when it suddenly took off and flew a short distance to a different perch. The light was pretty crummy for flight, but I did manage to get this frame against a varied BG. This image is almost full-frame horizontal, so I'm lucky that I didn't clip the bird.

Hi Doug, Im amazed how you guys always capture these head turns. Good exposure on the snowy, those eyes really stand out, and I like how the snowy is nicely separated from the grassy BG.

    Doug:

Another nice one. I'm surprised you didn't whip the TC off when you saw him take off so you had more framing flexibility.

Interesting comp. options here. Even though he is flying towards the right side of the frame, because of his gaze direction, I might be tempted to add back in some space on the left side if ou have any. I know you are limited.

One difficult thing I've noticed about he snowies is that because of the feathers on their face, the far eye is often blocked even with a modest head turn.

    Cheers

Makes my arms hurt just to think about hand holding the 600. From perch to fly to a great capture is great work. I like everything about it. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Roman. A little slower SS than I would have liked, but it all worked out OK.
