Apostlebird photographed in dawn light in the Kentucky Forest, southern New South Wales, Australia. These highly social birds get about in mobs of a dozen or so, hence their name.

    Canon 40D, EF500IS, tripod, evaluative, ISO800, 1/400, f/5, slight crop for composition.

Very sharp, great colors and BG works ok. What a different bird.

Very nice Simon, like the soft defused background and the pose on your bird...:D

Hi Simon Unusual for an image made on such a steep angle look good Normally they don't have a chance.

I like the pose, head angle and front half of bird. Good detail evenly lit and sharp. The rear half detracts from the image Strong shadow and the extra little branch bisecting the tail. Could try lightening a bit but generally will run into noise problems Best solution to fill flash at the time of exposure. Remember to include exp compensation with tech info

Hi Simon, I like the lighting and the detail showing off the unusual feathers of these birds. I think the angle works very well and seems to capture the character of the bird, for me the branch adds a lot of interest.
