Wow, you were awfully close! Is this a captive bird? Image appears a bit soft around the beak and lores (?sp) and I suspect the PP sharpening is the issue. Nice composition and BG,

No, the bird is not a captive, nor was it a setup, nor was he baited, unless you call me eating a sack-lunch while I photographed penguins bait. And yes I was very close to him and 24 others at about the same time. They are very tame in the Falklands and will gather around if they think you have something they can eat. There was no sharpening done, PP or otherwise. PP consisted of NIK NR and NIK color effect 4 with usually LR adjustment to raw file. You gotta see it to believe it!

Fun to be so close to wild birds...and especially so with raptors! At f/2.8 and 1/2000s. you had planty of room to close down to get that bill within DOF. I usually don't mind about that if the eye is sharp but in this case for a close-up profile it would have been good. A bit more sharpening for web and you should get those fine details up to snuff!

I'll bet you won't forget your encounter with these beautiful birds anytime soon!!
