Default Wild Dog On The Hunt

    Attached Images Attached Images

Canon 1Dmk4k, Canon 300f2.8 IS, handheld. S/speed 1/1600s at f3.5, iso 1000. Ai Servo, single AF point selected. Metering Eval. In ACR lightened entire image, lightened tones on dog only, added selective contrast and sharpening. Resized for web in PS. Location Savuti, Botswana. Not so early morning, overcast conditions.
A wild dog at full speed is something to see, but as the hunts frequently happen in woodland, I have found it tough to follow, let along photograph. This dog passed through some open areas in pursuit of impala.

You've done well to capture him in the clear Grant, with a lovely full stride, open mouth and keen eye.

Grant - well done! The flying full stride pose is great. The comp works well and as you said, no easy task to get them on full run or in the open.

    Grant,

You have certainly made the most of this golden opportunity, not very often you get this sort of possibility. Some may not like the bush in the BG but I really do not care, only nit for me is the eyee seems a little dark, but that could be my monitor?

Hi Grant, superb action shot of Wilddog in what seem difficult conditions. Those teeth look quite fearsome. If anything I might consider a taking little off the bottom.

Wow, I wouldn't want that thing chasing me, that's for sure. Really a great shot! Cool markings on the dog and excellent pose. It'd be even better if that brown shrub wasn't right behind his head, but I guess he probably wasn't open to staging suggestions, eh? lol Awesome photo!

Top class work here Grant...as you stated getting this chance is hard enough, and then nailing it in passing is even better...
How about a little toning down of the BG even more using luminosity masks to make the dog pop even more?

Absolutely fantastic. Love everything about it. Maybe lighten the eye a little bit?

Terrific image. Captures the motion and intensity of the hunt.

Like it as presented, shows the reach of the dog at a hunting run and its intense focus. I wonder sometimes if we become a bit too nit picky on what could be improved in an ideal world, instead of enjoying what was a great photo opportunity well taken. I'm sure that this was no easy image to get. Well done.

Thanks Gail, Hilary, Morkel, Pieter, Doug, Ken, Matt, VP, Marc, Rachel and Mark, for taking the time to comment and critique.
I have noted things to look at again on the raw image but won't be posting. Thanks for that input.

Nice grab Grant. I really like the upturned foot on the front right paw. It gives it more of a sense of movement than if it had been straight like the others. Not a complaint even if it had been straight but to me it's just one of those little things that makes a nice difference in an image. Great work.

    Cool Grant.

Might just crop a little off the foot, just to break the slight central look?
