A fantastic bird, Jim, and your image does justice to it! Nice slanting perch, awesome bg and great eye contact. Keep them coming please.

Jim, beautiful bird and great pose. I'm impressed you were able to capture this image using a tripod and such a slow shutter speed. Even with the 500mm lens, I imagine this bird was not really that far away, yet it you had the time to set it up right. Thanks for sharing.

Excellent pose and details, perch is just a tad big but overall a great shot!

    JIm,

Excellent techs and great background. Agree with Arash on perch size. I croped a little bit off of the bottom hoping take some out of dominating perch. See if this works.

Hi Jim, lovely soft light, well exposed on the blacks, and lots of detail and colours to look at. Maybe a little tight on the right.

Thanks for your repost and comments Sid. I tried a crop like this originally but felt it was a little too tight. This was not a set-up so I have to live with the oversized perch. I will find an image with a thinner perch.

Amazing colours and details. The beak is very impressive.
I like the background, nice and smooth.
The perch is a bit big for even this size of a bird but you take what you get I would say.
All in all it is a great work, Jim.

    Jim:

A great looking bird with one heck of a bill!

Yes, perch a big thick, but the diagonal line helps, and if this was originally shot as a horizontal, might try cropping it that way to minimize the perch, but I do think the bill is so dominant that it helps offset the perch.

I like the iris pigmentation causing the irregular appearing pupil. I have seen this in oyster catchers as well.

I could see a version about 1/4 of a stop brighter.

Look forward to more from your outing.

    Cheers

    Randy

    Perch has been mentioned.

Love the clean BG and relaxed pose of the toucanet. These guys rock!
