    Default Monitor Calibration Software

I have been using Spyder3Elite and received a notice that they have done a "major" upgrade and now there is 4.

Surprisingly, it appears a new user and a returning customer will pay the same. So much for loyalty!

What calibration system are you using?

    Calibration tricks?

How much ambient light do you try to eliminate when calibrating? When processing?
    Cheers, Jay

I use the Spyder3Elite, and it seems to work just fine; I don't feel the need to upgrade. I do my calibration when ambient light is fairly low (early morning or early evening).

Jay, I use the Spyder 3 with Color Eyes based on Rec from Chas Glatzer. I had some troubles early that required me to enlist the support folks at Integrated Color. They were a great help. Low ambient light was suggested as well which is what I do.

I use a re-branded Gretag Eye-one Pro that didn't come with software. Instead of buying, I use an open source solution -- Argyll CMS http://www.argyllcms.com/ and dispcalGUI http://dispcalgui.hoech.net/ for the GUI front-end. Both have executables available for Windows, Mac, and Linux. Supported hardware is listed here about a page down http://www.argyllcms.com/doc/ArgyllDoc.html

    Hi Jay,
I also use Argyll software and a Spyder3. I had a lot of problems with getting a consistent calibration under XP. Argyll under linux gave me the tools to check my calibration, It probably should be similar under other operating systems. I used the command line interface. See:

Hi, I have learned that the S3 software can be upgraded from 3.0 to 4.0 for $19. I am waiting for an email from Datacolor regarding the difference between upgrading S3 from 3.0 to 4.0 and S4.
    Cheers, Jay
