This is a pretty common critter in our area. The image was made a couple weeks ago. I liked the feet shaped to the contour of the rock and the open beak with the tongue showing. A pretty harsh sun is coming from right to left . . . how are the whites?; they are not blown per my histogram. I'd like a little more room on the right and the bottom, but I don't have it. Appreciate critiques.

A fine shot, the whites look good to me. My only reservation is that it is rather tight in the frame. I would add canvas to the bottom, to the right and just a tad to the left.

    Hi Wendell,
I agree with your critique!! I think the whites on the belly are on the hot side but would think they would be easy to recover with a curves mask or linear burn. The color in the BG is very unique with the reddish browns. The open beak is great. my biggest nit is the lack of space on the bottom,

Yes to a bit more room all around. The whites are almost there , and could probably be saved. Great catch with the open mouth and tongue.

Gail and Joe,thanks so much for looking and critiquing my post; the whites look in check (not blown) per the histogram in my Lightroom 3 program. I've had comments about my whites being a bit "over" on prior images, when my histogram looked OK. Can you suggest why that might be? I'm puzzled, and wonder what might be wrong. I don't think I'm reading the histogram wrong . . . but . . .
