    Default Jay

Canon 7D Canon 500mm f4 L IS, tripod head, ISO 1000 1/640 sec f6.3 Shot taken from my back garden hide, I placed suet in the branch, the jay and the woodpecker along wit the squirrels have given the branch a hard time - will have to replace it! All comments welcome.

This jay is one quick dude. I focussed on his eye and then locked focus I pressed the shutter knowing he would look up and round - bang high speed motor drive a few shots and he was off! Must get round to a new perch this looks like it is past it's best with the woodpecker and squirrels also having a go at it!

Hey Jon, good looking species. He certainly heard your shutter with this inquisitive pose. I like the comp, great IQ, and the Jay has good detail throughout. Pops nicely from your BG. I agree, a perch full of lichen would have looked better. Now that you have mentioned the squirrels, how about a shot of one of your avian visitors and the squirrel on your perch.

I was going to do that but a golden eagle came down and carried off the squirrel - haven't seen him since

Wonderful shot. The detail is excellent, very nice head angle, real nice perch, and great smooth background.
    Well done.
