    Default Cropping question

After converting the RAW file to a 16bit TIFF file I open up the TIFF file in PS and the dimensions are 4896 (pixels) x 3264. When I crop it with a 6 x 4 ratio it is always 1800 (pixels) across and 1200 vertical. It does not matter how big or small the crop is the same 1800 (pixels) x 1200 image size results. This does not seem right. Should it not be proportional? I think this is effecting my image quality.

    Thanks Tom

    Hi Tom,

It sounds like you have the Resolution field in the Crop Tool toolbar menu set to 300 ppi.
When you put a value in the Resolution field, this causes the Crop Tool to become
a "Crop and Resize" tool. So if you set the Width and Height to 6 in and 4 in and have
the Resolution set to 300 ppi, this means you want to crop and THEN resize the resulting
    crop to 1800 x 1200 pixels.

To avoid the resizing, just leave the Resolution field blank.
This will perform the crop and just leave you with however many original pixels are left
    after the crop.
