Well, I took another spill this week and this time camera, lens and all in the water so I am processing older files. This one from the same day I took my first spill.. Thank God for insurance. Those waders can be tricky to walk in. This is one of my fave horned Grebe shost so far. Nothing dynamic but I love the softness of the water and and bg. I usually get them wet with water drops but this guy is pretty dry. I have been pretty lucky this year finding these guys and they seem to not mind me coming close to them in the water..

    C&C appreciated

Wonderful dreamy feel to this one Cheryl. Picky point, but I might see if you could extract a tiny bit more detail out of the white cheek. Sorry about your spill, it happens!!

    Hi Cheryl,
This is lovely. The dreamy feel of the water and excellent techs really make this a great shot. Nice bow wake in front of the bird. I would consider removing the one of the catchlights.
Be careful out there! Might be time to invest in some underwater housing for your gear!!

Cheryl, be careful out there! Love the DOF, lighting here is great, nice exposure and the color combination is very pleasing. Can you lighten the shadow of the eye a tad?

Hi Cheryl, good low perspective, well exposed, and I do like the overall detail on the grebe. Love the red eye, but do agree with Gary regarding the shadow. I like how the bow wave is in sharp focus against the surrounding softer water, and I would maybe take a bit off the top.

Good luck in getting your gear back to full working order.

Lovely water, I don't mind the shadow, the angle and eye make up for it.

Love the lighting and overall IQ, agree on the eye shadow. If I had my druthers I wish that the wave in the right foreground was just a little lower so that the line of the bird meeting the water continued from the breast all the way back instead of becoming fuzzy from the wave. Good luck with your equipment!

Beautiful capture, Cheryl, what a great looking Grebe, the wake and water texture really add nicely to whole comp. Sorry about your spill and equipment, what kind of insurance covers that?

Thanks everyone. OK I lightened the shadow, removed a catchlight, added depth to the cheek and cropped from the top and a tad off the left. All great suggestions . Sorry Rhys can't change the wake

Now that is my kind of low angle!! Way to go! Glad your equipment will be taken care of....I think you need to concentrate on backyard setups for a while to prevent more accidents!!

It is important to have a low angle, pity it was too low. Beautiful picture. The shadows bothers me not.
