Passerini's Tanager

This created at Finca Loco Natural, Caribe Sur, CR was known as Red rumped Tanager but now the Pacific and Caribbean races are seperated. Pacific race is Cheries Carib race more orange on rump. Very hard bird to get right, lots of fun balancing the stunning rump and the blacks Cloned out some faint branches to right of subject. Processed from raw in DPP, NR by Topaz, needed on bird too, finished in CS5 7d 100-400, 1/50, eV +1, iso 800,f 5.6, tripod AV MODE, AF A1 FOCUS

Stunning bird. Looks very similar to our Flame-rumped Tanager. Very nice shot and you did a good job with the blacks. I wish the backgound had been darker to contrast better with the brilliant rump.

He is a beautiful bird, the exposure looks great on him. I agree with Peter, you should try to tone down the background and perch.

My goodness, you saw a lot of birds in CR! Another item for the bucket list!! I agree that if you darkened the BG this would elevate the image several notches. Great job on the blacks,

I think I probably saw 300 species and recorded some 100; my total view over 2 years is nearer 400.
What was interesting this time was that there was a real downturn in the numbers of small birds like these tanagers
concensus seemed to be that the weather changes were affecting fruiting trees etc --- not sure.

So, yes, the BG was way too light so here toned down

Nice bird! Agree with comments on background, but to me there is too much saturation in the repost - noting especially the green tone under the branch not present in the original. Also wish for slightly darker background near the beak - top of beak seems to get lost a little bit. Great shot overall!
