    Default Intense Owl

ISO 800, 300mm f/5.6, 1/200, mid day under a canopy of trees, which shed a rather strong green cast to everything. Exposure increased a bit in post and a minor curve adjustment. I then used Dfine 2 to remove some noise, Perfect Portrait on the eyes only, Viveza 2 to remove the green cast, Perfect Color to add some highlights and make some more color adjustments, and Perfect Effects to add a little glow and the texture you see behind the owl, as well as a little bit of vignette to ensure the focus is on the eyes.

I was situated between the owl and a large perch with a treat on top. He's focused on the food behind and above me and is just about to leap.

This owl was rescued as a baby and raised by humans at the Carolina Raptor Center. It could not be released back to the wild.

Anyway, let me know what you all think, and of course all critique is welcome!

Matt, I love the stare - his eyes look so human. I like the effect you've achieved - I think I might like a little bit cropped form the left which would remove the green color on the bottom left and maybe lighten up the shadows a little bit.

Hi Matt, love the stare and agree with Cheryl's suggestions. It is a touch too dark for me on the bottom.

Thanks, guys! I went back and made the suggested changes (as much as I could, anyway). Still on the dark side on the lower half... I increased the exposure on the bottom, but some of it is just clipped so there's not really much to be recovered from there, I don't think. Let me know if you think this improves!

Very intense stare! I love the eyes. I do think that I prefer the repost slightly. Cute little fellow.

Thanks, very much! I noticed that the original photo shows that it is unavailable now... I guess because I republished to flickr from LR and now only the new one exists. However... so.... yes, the new one is waaaaay more fabulous so just look at that one. lol
