The Red Tail allowed me to get close, 25m. The crop is approximately 10%. I will usually pass on a subject this deep in the bush. In this case, the delicate Russian Olive branches were acceptable. IMHO the muted vegatation, sky and hawk work. Nikon D700, Nikkor 600mm, f5.0, 1/2000, iso 800, EV +.67, bean bag on truck door, cloudy, midaftenoon early January. Post processing was minimal with ACR, Color efex pro 4.0 and usm. C & C appreciated.
Gary - beautiful bird, and I agree, the delicate branches make this an interesting, lovely image. feels a little like an oriental ink painting of a sort.... I think it might be interesting to see a crop that excludes the 2 bottom horizontal branches though (possibly cloning out part of the higher one for a little more space there) and brighten the eye just a little..
I agree with Pat's comments regarding the bottom of the frame. As is, seems like negative space and allows the eye to wander. I love the high-key image might try and strengthen the subject's colors. Consider curves, levels and selective color and increase the mid tones making the image pop a bit.
I agree with you gary, the habitat compliments the picture and gives it a unique painting look - this is very strong and well done. I might hang out in this locations often - thanks for sharing.
Hi Gary, nice capture of a lovely juvenile. I like the included environment and your repost hit all the suggestions perfectly. Well done! I especially like the added color and contrast, really looks good.
