it was funny as i was reading the other posts today that Bruce had posted a BB and Al commented about the singing pose. I captured this one last week at Wakodahatchee Wetlands. I guess the activity has really dropped off since i was there. :(

    D300, Sigma 50-500 at 500mm, f/6.3, 1/250s, 0EV, ISO 500, flash fill at 0EV with better beamer.

would a wider aperture gotten me some better detail over the entire bird?

    comments and critiques are appreciated

.....sure did Harold I could not come up with one !!!!

This is the classic singing pose with the open beak and raised wings showing the red !!! Would tone down the red by lowering the saturation They come up like that from the camera with no help !!!

Sweet all around Love this image ... now all you need is to get one in a natural perch :D:):)

I think it might be chromatic aberration.

Nice job Harold! I sure do love that pose. I also see the chromatic aberrations around the legs, a symptom that can show up with some lenses. You can reduce this with many RAW editors, including ACR. I seem to recall you use Nikon software, so you'll need to look around and see if you can find any options that work for you. Look closely around the legs and tail feathers and you should see it. Overall the image also appears a bit too green and think that improving the color cast will improve your reds too.

Nice job toning down the wing bars Harold. It appears you have captured the classic pose as well - Only prob seems to be the perch - nice image.

    Nice.

No, a wider aperature would only shorten the already too short DOF that this image suffers from. Try stopping down to f8 or f11 next time.
