Default New Computer new CS5 and new Problems for me

I am having a problem here and it is evident in some comments I am getting on my images. On my monitor using CS5 I see a great bright and very sharp image yet when I post online using the same computer and monitor the images look flat and not sharp. What is going on? Yes I got a new computer so I ask what it could be? I am converting to srgb as well. I'm bumming out over here. I also need to add that CS5 is also new from CS4 so Maybe I have the settings wrong? Seems this problem started at the time I updated to 5 as well as got a new computer. I confess my PS skill lack big time so I could use some help in what the color settings should read. Thanks so much as You are always soooo helpful.

I guess my first reaction is good ole jpg compression problems. Using the new and wonderful 250kb/image, what quality are you achieving when you reduce your jpg?

Others will ask: what calibration software are you using?

My ability to discuss this with you, an avid intermediate amateur and a consummate published professional, is simply another one of the wonderful opportunities provided by BPN that is not really found anywhere else.

    Look forward to others' comments.

Oh yeah, while we are at it tell us about your new computer!
    Cheers, Jay

Hi Jay and thanks for the response. I have a feeling it is my color management since I am seeing adifferent image on PS than I am on BPN on the same moniter. I Love my new computer but I probably would have been happy with anything since mine was about 5-6 yrs old. I have no patience for this stuff so speedy is nice for me and windows 7 is better than my xp except for these ongoing problems.

Interesting, Cheryl! I don't have any advise but, I was having problems with color calibration and printing. I (with help) built a new desktop machine, installed windows 7 and, shazamm....my prints are coming out almost exactly as I see them on my Viewsonic monitor? Good luck with this. Maybe posting the question in the workflow forum would get more attention?

    Cheryl,

Greetings. I had something of the same problem (new computer, upgrade to CS5, different jpeg output, sigh). Can't exactly say what I did to return to prior (& it may be different for you) but I had some PS Color Settings issues, Color Profile issues, & attaching profile issues that I worked out & am now happy with the output. I have LR in the mix & there were complications there.

Anyway, in short I'd recommend looking at resetting the various fields in the Edit->Color Settings panel in CS5 to what you had in CS4 and in particular check that the ICC profile on export is what you want & attached. What you describe sounds like, perhaps, AdobeRGB Working Space image which is exported without a profile attached. The most browsers color manage now but can't without the profile attached, so some default web profile is used and the image tends to look flat with decreased contrast.

Good luck (this kind of problem tends to be headache inducing).

    Cheers,

    -Michael-
