Like a ghost, this Snowy Sheathbill at Half Moon Island, Antarctica, almost seemed to vanish into its snowy background. But its beak and eye betrayed its presence.
What a beautiful image Noram...It surely must been tough to see it in same BG...I can see fair amount of details in white on head but can not see any on body...And trust me the breast line literally vanishes in that identical BG...TFS
Do you have full body in frame? I am sure you will post it here in you subsequent post...Looking forward to see more from this cool place.
Interesting bird and good pose.
If this were mine, I would consider some masking for the background (your choice) make it darker or lighter than the bird. (not by much)
While the merger is mentioned in the title, the subject of the image is the bird.
I would also consider a linear burn on the white feathers of the bird; or using a software package to do tonal contrast or detail extractor on the feathers in the lower half (fine detail in the head region) like Artie has suggested.
I like how this image illustrates that the sheathbill blends in so well with it's background. I can just see a hint of a highlight in the eye and wonder if it would look better being a bit brighter.
What an amazing looking bird and a great capture. The only thing I wish for so much would be just a slight head turn toward you. He almost looks as though he is facing away just a tad.
