    Default 1D mark 2n or 7D

Have found both these cameras at the same cost 1000$ Would really like a pro camera with weather sealing and AF at f8.to use with my 400,5.6 +1.4..also heard the files look very good...But the 7D is 18 pixels....more pixels on subject? newer camera.. I currently use 50D not sure 7Ds much better, leaning towards 1D mark2n...Anyone have both cameras...thanks

AF at f8.to use with my 400,5.6 +1.4
No AF at f/8 with the 7D.

I have owned the Canon 20d, MK2n and the 5d. I will give up my MK2n when the pry it from my cold dead hands! Now...If I could have a second camera for back up for the MK2n it would be the 7d, because my wife likes it. My 5d is mt second camera, for landscapes and macro. However it was my go to camera when I first started out years ago, for birds, ducks, you name it. It taught me patience. If have to choose, it would a nice thing to go for the MK2n. My reason is the frame rate and decent buffer for off loading images. I've gotten so used to it, I do not know if I will ever sell it. Now when the 1ds comes out, 12 frames and 21 meapixels with full frame! I want one.

    Just my 2 cents here.

    Hi Brian,

I have 1DII, 1DIV, 5D2, 7D, and have owned/used 60D, 10D, 20D, 30D, 40D. While I will not give up my 1DII (good backup). The 7D smaller pixels is like have a built in TC. I'll be starting a new thread in the gear forum shortly to address this issue. If you compared the 7D with 1.4x TC to 1DII(n) with 2x TC, you'll have slightly lower noise per pixel, more pixels on subject, lower shadow noise for the same exposure time and same aperture diameter. You'll also have faster AF.

See also my article on telephoto reach:
    http://www.clarkvision.com/articles/telephoto_reach/
Note Figure 2 which shows an image with the 1DII and 7D made with the same lens and same exposure.

And watch for the new thread. I think the title will be 7D versus 1D IV (but it will apply to your question).

According to DXO Labs http://www.dxomark.com/index.php/Cam...(brand2)/Canon the sensors perform about even their auto focus is about even and the frame rate is also about even so the question becomes do you really want 8 mega pixels when you can get 18 mega pixels.

    Brian,
Did you look at Figure 2 on the link I provided?

Yes, Thankyou Roger, those photos of the moon really show the qaulity of the 7D...the 1Dmk2 look kind of fuzzy in comparison..
