I don't post much on the Wildlife forum but trying to expand my horizons... This buck was shot on a recent Yellowstone trip. Shot with my tripod mounted 7D @ 600mm, ISO 640, f/7.1, SS 1/400. This is full frame but I wanted to include more environment...certainly could be cropped for those that like tight. I selected and darkened the BG a bit and also removed a rather large distracting tree limb from the BG

Nick, Though I am one to promote square compositions, I am not keen on the square look here. I tried and liked a crop off the top and bottom, plus a bit off the rear better balances the image IMO while still leaving plenty of environment. Looks like it could use some CW rotation. Nice look to the buck with it calling and the rack stands out well from the BG. I love the grass you captured him in.

Hi Nick, firstly, based on this I cannot see why you have not posted here before, hopefully there will be more to come.

When I first viewed this earlier my initial thoughts was to go for a tighter crop. Roberts suggestion is along the lines I was thinking of and would strengthen the image. Colour, clarity & definition all look good.

Be good to see a repost.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Here is a re-post with the crop and a bit of rotation, may be a little tight on the top..

Definitely too tight on the crop for my taste. I would just take a bit off the bottom and RHS of frame of OP. Love how the antlers show well against the BG. Great shot,

Nick - I would leave a little more room both top and bottom than in your repost. Nice pose, tone and colors. Well done and looking forward to more.

Hi Nick, would agree with both yours & Rachels comment re, more room above, something like this?

The other thing I have noticed is the OP has the Colour Mode set to RGB and has no Colour Profile set, ie sRGB which is required for posting on the web or projection so this image may now have a colour shift to it. You may wish to check this for future postings.

    Hope this helps.
