    Default A Wet Winter Coat

    Attached Images Attached Images

Another Coyote photo (about the only real wildlife I can get in an urban area).
This is the same coyote I posted a couple days ago, not the one from a couple weeks ago.
Thinner with finer features (female?) but a beautiful wet Pacific Northwest winter coat none the less.
Full frame, I wish for a bit more room but I was too close and unable to get further away.
A lot of frames I had to scrap because I couldn't get the coyote in the frame. In retrospect I
should have taken off the 1.4, but hated to lose the moment.

The coyote is beautiful, I love the expression on his face. I agree that it is tight. Maybe you could add a bit of canvass to the left side so he doesn't appear cut off in the rear. TFS

Dan - great detail and walking pose. It pops nicely from the bg. I agree it is a bit tight especially to the left and below. The shadows look to have a bit too much green to me (see under the chin) but should be easy to remedy in color balance.

I love the detail on the coyote against the background as well. I also agree on the crop (although as more of a beginner myself I haven't yet got everything down myself and find it challenging enough to capture wildlife in the first place!

How are you finding the coyotes in an urban environment? I am thinking of trying my hand near my neighborhood (we have some areas nearby that are sure to have them), but I haven't figured out the best way to stalk.

    Thanks!

    Jim, I don't stalk.
It is more a matter of luck and the fact that they are prevalent in Oregon.
I see them in the middle of Portland.
This one was in a wildlife refuge 20 minutes from downtown Portland.
I see them while birding (my prime objective), they just are there and I am fortunate enough to
get photo's. They also have no fear (not good in my opinion), so do not run and make it easy.
    Good luck finding them.

Lovely sharp detail, soft light and a "naughty gaze" too...it's a pity it's so tight but that being said I am starting to like very tight - even slightly "cut-off" shots more these days...
Theoretically you could have shaved some off the RHS to get the whole tail in but then there would be even less space for it to "walk into".
A bit less on top and a bit more at the bottom would also have been good - doable at the focal length you were shooting at but we often don't think hard about these things if the action happens in an instant!

    Hi Dan, missed this earlier.

Agree on the tightness, but would also drop the blue coming through on the coat. Easy fix and gives that nice 'salt & pepper' colouring.
