Traveled to the Hawaiian Islands in november 2011. Saw Nene, Hawaiian goose, both on Big Island and Kaua´i. Meet this goose just before the sun went down on Kauai.
Canon 1D mark 4, canon 400mm f5,6 lens, ISO 800, f/5,6, 1/2000, AE program, 0 EV. Monopod. Post processed in Lightroom. Cropped from horizontal to vertical.

Nice alert pose, and you did well to crop vertically. I like the fresh greens and golden browns. Good details too. Some of the brighter areas could be toned down to put more emphasis on the nice late light you had. A lower angle, if possible, would have given you an even better BG by throwing it even more OOF and a more intimate perspective on the subject. We don't see many birds from Hawaii...nice to see one!!

    Gunnlaugur:

Excellent input from Daniel. The lower shooting angle if possible would have really helped with subject isolation from the background.

    Well exposed.

I might add back in a sliver more canvas on the left if you have it.

    Cheers
