Default New Lens - Red Panda (C)

So I finally decided to add the 70-200 f2.8 II IS to my arsenal. We had an unseasonably warm weekend so I took it to the Central Park Zoo for a test run.

    Canon 7D
    70-200 @ 142mm
    1/500
    f2.8
    ISO 800
HH, curves, levels, reduced blues (thanks Steve K), cropped, cloned out a bunch of annoying branches and sharpened in CS5.

    C&C welcome and appreciated. Thanks,

    Rachel

Hi Rachel, the curvature of the branch, relaxed pose, the jaw resting on the branch and the OOF paw dangling make up a nice image. Colours look good, likewise the detail and with the aperture wide open helps to diffuse the BKG nicely. The tight crop works well on this 'portrait' IMHO.

Good to see you bit the bullet on the lens now you need the 500 before the end of the year. I also think the new toy isn't a bad lens for landscapes too.

    Rachel, sweet photo.
I love the 70-200 (Nikon version) for shots like this and for portraits!
The best Portrait lens ever made, just stand back and shoot, Great bokeh and far enough away
    to get natural poses.
Nice use of f2.8 although I find stopping down just a bit (f3.5) is better.
Looking forward to more form you and this lens.

Nice, I like it, techs, color, spot on. Must have been outside, cloudy? Might be tempted to crop a bit from left and right - but perhaps begins to be too square?
F2.8 seems to have worked fine, the nose , eyes, look sharp. Great to have such sharpness at 2.8 in that zoom range.

Lovely image of this lovely creature. I like the details around nose. The relaxed mood of Panda is captured nicely.
