    Default Portrait of an Ostrich

    Taken at Rietvlei Nature Reserve, Pretoria. This lady got a bit closer than usual and I thought that I would do a portrait - something that I have never done before with this species.

    Pieter:

    I like the soft backlighting, the eyes, spiky hairdo.

    I would have been tempted to bump the ISO a bit to get a little more DOF.

    Comp is a little snug on the right side, easy to add canvas if desired. I don't worry so much about centering the head in a vertical portrait shot as I do in a horizontal. The slight diagonal of the neck helps it be less static.
