Saw these wonderful lamas that were on private property. Loved the face and wooly coat. CS5 and PB oil, gausian blur on BG.

The straight-on pose and facial expression make this very appealing. The colors are just great together, and I like the Pixel Bender effect on the hair. Nice job.

Brendan, this is excellent and probably a first on OOTB! I too love the straight-on pose and the expression. Great details and the filter effects enhances it further. Nicely done!

Very well done. Just enough processing to keep it clean. Fine job on selective focus. The face is sharp from the tip of the nose to the eyes. The slight softness of the ears add to the image. Like this very much.

Excellent! I have hiked often with llamas and you captured a great expression head on! I can see he is grinding his jaws just a bit, probably still chewing on something. PB is so perfect for hair & you did a great job. BTW, how did you keep the details in the long hairs so well while blurring the bkgd?

Thanks everyone, much appreciated, and I now know how to correctly spell Llama!

No secrets, just being lazy about the details, I guess. The main thing I did in CS5 other than the standard adjustments from Artie's Digital Basics, was to dodge the left side of the head and face to try and even it out some with the rt. side. With PB oil, I create a new layer of the whole image, then apply it, then use soft eraser to reveal details I want to keep, like in the eyes, nose, and mouth.

For the blur on BG, I select just the BG, create a layer, apply Gaussian blur to that layer, then use soft eraser to remove any blur left around the edges of the Llama.

Excellent portrait on a Llama! Your post processing brought out the best aspects. I like that slightly crooked mouth. :-) I think I'd like to see the ears a bit lighter. Thanks for sharing your tips on post processing--always good to learn more.
