Default American Robin at the Watering Hole...

    Attached Images Attached Images

A bunch of over-wintering American Robins are feasting on ripe (and frozen) berries at a local conservation area. A species normally associated with the arrival of spring, there are always some every year that don't follow their relatives south and spend the winter here. Most people don't see them at this time as they don't over-winter on lawns where they are conspicuous during the summer months.

Quite bold and confident, this fella was actually acting like the pond bully and would not let others of his kind come close to his spot by either trying to peck at them or actually chasing them away. He was very tolerant of my presence compared to the others, and he did something that I have never seen a robin do before (or knew that they could!!). Stay tuned to find out what that was...

    Canon 7D + 100-400L @330mm, manual exposure, evaluative metering (metered off snow + 2.7 stops), 1/200s., f/6.3, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, ~85% FF.

An excellent Robin, an inspired choice on a cold day in winter.
Very nice details and I like that you chose a muted tone for it.
The epitome of spring, as a winter bird!
    Well done as usual.

Excellent image quality Dan, the image looks clean as a whistle. Love the low angle and the alert eye.
