    Default Yellowstone Broad Winged Hawk??

Okay...One of my New Years resolutions is to post more on these critique forums so I thought I would start here. I have not posted on BPN in a while and the Avian forum for an even longer time! I believe this is a broad winged hawk which I captured on a recent Yellowstone trip. This was shot with my tripod mounted Canon 7D, 600mm with 1.4 TC, ISO 640, SS-640, f/5.6.

Nick, I will never be confident offering criticism to someone's image because I know we all have pride in our work and I would never want to injure someone's feelings.....thankfully, I truly have no nits with your capture. I like the composition, the coloration, the bokeh is to die for....it is a very interesting capture! Thanks for sharing.

Nick, I like the touches of snow and the branch ending within the frame and the look of the bird's surface feathers . . . wet, I think . . .

Nick, I like the BG, comp, sharpness and exposure. I wish for a better head angle toward the viewer, but..... BTW, I believe that this is a Red-tailed Hawk. The belly/breast looks good for redtail and I think that I see a RED TAIL! Broadwinged Hawk would be very rare in Yellowstone, particularly in winter.

very nice pose, I'm surprised no one has mentioned this but the bird looks very noisy and especially the eye looks funny...looks like something was went wrong in processing?

You are so right, Arash! I am looking on my 24" monitor and lots of noise! The eye does look funny but could be a naturally occurring thing?

Thanks guys, Arash and Dan, not sure about the noise, looked back at the RAW file and don't see a lot of noise but do see it on a enlarged version of the jpeg, likely something in post processing. I also noticed that I considerably lightened the eye in PP. Thanks for the input. Frank this forum is for critique, personally I don't put images that I am in love with and I especially like to post images that I am just not sure about, those that I know something is wrong but cannot put my finger on it...Thanks for the input.

Noisy and the eye does look odd, especially colour and pupil shape. I also find the darks too dark. Nice open view of this individual, good perch and beautiful BG. I'd lean towards RTH too...

NIck, that is one good new yr resolution. Nice Bg and I also like the perch. Good details.

lots of good suggestions above. You probably overcooked it a bit in processing. Additionally, I think you can crop with more space around...if you have in orig.
