I have seen this duck, which hangs out with a raft of Barrow's Goldeneyes, in both the early spring of 2010 and a couple of weeks ago on Dec 18, 2011 on the Columbia River in Castlegar. (49 19 55 N, 117 40 42 W in 2011; 49 19 23 N, 117 39 3 W in 2010). Here is probably the best picture that I have of it. I also have another shot of it from the back coming in for a landing...it is all white underneath, no white bands on the wings, all black feet. I can post that photo as well if it would be helpful.
According to the Birds of BC (Campbell et al. 1990), Long-tailed Ducks have occurred a few times in the area.
Any confirmations or other IDeas?
Thanks for your help!
