    Default Sandpiper

The very first photo I took on New Years day on the beach at Seaside, Oregon.
A Western Sandpiper I think, although these small sandpipers stump me sometimes.
Very small and a lot of them.
I liked the almost B&W look.
Very little PP, some NR and sharpening.
    Critiques appreciated.

The low angle and the water trail are nice, good details. Light was not on your side however overall looks a bit gloomy, hope you can get some sunlight on this beauty next time, good light makes a whole world of difference! TFS and happy new year!

Hi Dan, good low angle, with good complimentary colours between the bird and BG. Yep, it does look overcast which hasnt helped, and wish he had turned his head a little towards you.

I could be wrong but this looks like a winter plumaged Sanderling? The bill is slightly longer and more tapered at the tip on the Westerns.

I don't mind overcast light, but some fill-flash would have really helped here. A btter head angle too. I'd prefer less room above, or more below. Nice calm water and lots of nice details.

Beautiful image with the light you had. I really like the sharp detail in the reflection and the water trail.
