Took this image a couple months ago. although this species is rather common in the peruvian andes, it was the first one for me as cannot travel a lot because of highschool and the fact i cannot drive :D. I was really happy to have gotten this species.
Nikon D300s ISO 400 Nikkor 300mm F4@F5.6 1/200 SB600 Fill Flash 1/4.
I know the lighting is sideways but there was not much i could do, because this was shooten on a cliff and this was the best perspective i found.
Hope you like it,
all comments and critiques are welcome!!
The image really shows that long tail. I would consider pushing up the ISO to give you more shutter speed flexibility and also the option of a smaller f/stop for increased depth of field.
There are some bright areas that are overexposed, and you can help bring those back with the recovery slider in Lightroom or Photoshop.
In a perfect world, I would prefer not to have the second flower stem in the background (LUC)
I think you are doing fine, keep working it, and feel free to comment on other folks images, as it really helps train your own eye!
I really like the design of your image, and the fact the subject is hovering with its body angled towards us rather than a straight profile. I love the perfectly sharp face and way blurred wings. Some of the whites on the flower are quite bright, and I would work on the eye to tame what looks like a "marbled" glaze to it.
