I took this a few weeks ago. I liked the windblown feather look. Appreciate all C&C. Best wishes for a Happy New Year and plenty of great bird pics!

    Cathy,

Not bad for a boat shot, let get down to some detail. The composition and windy look is great, I really like this, great grassy habitat and the feel/mood you captured makes a great photograph. Photography is suppose to invoke feeling and you are on the right track here!

There is a concept called virtual feet saying leave extra room for the feet even if not in the frame, I am alright with this let's see what other say. The image could be sharper, I know moving boat with wind - continue to practice panning and try and put the focal point on the head/neck - where was it. The exposure techs look solid and you did well with this one.

Did you run noise reduction, I see gain in the background?

Thanks for your suggestions Jeff. I do try to focus on the head, but may have slipped a bit on this one. I have several more of this bird so I will see if there is another sharper picture. I did run NR, but only with LR3. Haven't got CS5 on my new mac yet.

    Cathy,

Thanks for the follow up, when I view the image on my ipad I do not see the grain, so it could be me and the detail on the body and overall image are fine. Really love the grass and habitat, what a great moment with nature.

Well done Cathy. The whites are handled nicely, feather detail is good and the dark bg and grass accentuate the subject. With a shot like this, consider flipping your camera 90 degrees for a vertical composition.
