Default A most unusual pair - Whooping/Trumpeter hybrid juvis

While shooting at the local bird sanctuary a few days ago, I noticed this most unusual pair. The entire family was there, with one adult whooping swan, one adult trumpeter and these two hybrid juvis. They clearly behaved like a family. These are wild birds, and I saw them fly in. They are clearly not residents at the sanctuary.

In doing online research, this combination in the wild is quite uncommon.

D700 600VR 1.4 TC 1/500s f/6.3 ISO 800 Gitzo/Wimberley. Shooting angle as low as I could go because of the fence.

Post: CS5 selective sharpening, Color Efex Pro tonal contrast on lead bird, cropped from all sides, approx 60% of original frame remaining

Advice and comments appreciated. I thought this unique combo was worth sharing.

    Cheers

Hi Randy, I really like the similar poses here, with a good low angle of capture. I do like the sharp detail and overall exposure, together with the colour of the water.

We had Black -bellied whistling ducks that arrived at a local pond in winter. Goodness knows where they came from, and we wonder where they are now. Cheers.

Well worth it. Beautiful comp. and water color. Wish the one in the back was a bit sharper , but still love this , as is. Seems to have a slight bluish color cast , but might just be my monitor.

    Thanks Stuart and Joe:

Joe, you are quite right about the blue cast. It was taken in the shade, which gives it that effect, so I edited it as I remembered, but taking that cast out does make it better I think.

    Here is a quick redo.

Randy, Having never seen this combo Whooping/Trumpeter hybrid juvis in person I appreciate this image even more. Lovely poses and juxtaposition. I think that the bird in the back looks natural OOF. I might be tempted to tone down the brighter areas of the water just a little and nudge a little more detail out of the lower neck of the one if it were mine but your processing skills are wonderful and you probably nudged as much as you could.

amazing low level image Randy sir :)

might be wrong but i see the image little ccw'ed. could be the long neck bends too much back of Trumpeters..

Randy, very worth sharing and thanks for that. Very unique shot here due to the hybrids. Would be worth taking a trip over there this long weekend to check them out. You have a nice reflection so late in the year. Nice to see the head angles with these guys. Very cool.

Looks like a symphony on water . Love that golden hue which contrasts beautifully with the bird's color . The repost makes it look much better , but I still seem to see a bluish cast . Not sure , if it is there ...or time to calibrate my monitor again.
