    Default Elephant Calf

We met this elephanat at Bandipur Tiger Reserve bordering Kerla state in India. It was a 10 member strong family and there were 2 calves and young tuskers as well. The head mother was very watchful and protected the young ones carefully.

Unfortunately your subject is just too obscure by the trees, especially the central tree and not allowing a clear line of sight. If it were possible moving to the left may have given you a better opportunity. In addition your subject lacks clarity, detail and sharpness, however this might be down to movement by you, more shutter speed, or just needs some sharpening applied in the processing of the image.

I do fully understand the restrictions you had, but perhaps waiting for a better, clearer opportunity would have resulted in a better image overall, however i trust there will be more options available for you next time.

V S - welcome to BPN. Steve has summed up the problems with your image well. Hopefully you have others from the sighting that may have a clearer view and be sharper. The most important thing is to keep shooting and posting. You'll learn a tremendous amount. Check out some of the other BPN Forums too.

Welcome here VP. Did you get my PM?
Steve summed it up nicely. This was probably a very memorable sighting, but as an image it has a few problems that can be easily corrected when out in the field next time. I don't mind the busy surroundings as there's nothing you can do about it - but for the forked tree in front of the calf which is very distracting.
We don't like to admit it, but there are times in the bush when we merely need to "watch" and perhaps put the camera down, using our eyes and other senses to "take in the scene" .

Looking forward to more posts from your travels!
