    Default Sporty Juvenile Red-tailed Hawk...

    Attached Images Attached Images

This young individual was actually perched on a soccer goal post for a few moments before deciding that was not the best place to hunt for voles...so it took off, only to land atop a chain link fence behind a baseball diamond's home plate. Quite the athlete it seems!! Anyhow, this photo was taken during its flight between the two sports structures. Cropped from vertical and added canvas at right (I was photographing vertical portraits of it when it took off and didn't want to risk losing it in the viewfinder thus left in in vertical for the short flight...)

Canon 7D + 100-400L @300mm, manual exposure, aperture priority, 1/1250s., f/7.1, ISO 400, natural light, handheld. P.S. Yes I do wish the shadow on the far wing was not there.

    Daniel:

Excellent exposure, like the angle in the frame, he pops from the BG well.

The head appears just a little soft to my eye.

I am impressed you could do a BIF shot while in portrait mode. I have enough trouble keeping them in the frame in landscape mode!

    Cheers

IQ looks OK considering the crop, and pose looks fine to me. I don't mind the shadow on the wing.

Hi Dan, good flight posture, and I like the exposure, and detail from the near underwing. There is some noise visible in the darker parts of the BG, so a touch up there wont harm this image.

Love the story! I like the BG and wing position. Nice and sharp but wish his head was looking a bit more towards me . IQ is excellent and I am most impressed that you were able to track this guy in vertical.

Daniel, Nice capture and the exposure is great. I don't mind the shadow since it has a wing look to it.

I donīt mind the shadow at all, it would be unnatural if it wasnīt there. The photo is great as it is.
