This image was made out at Ft. Desoto last year while out with my wife Micah, and Philip Pietri. It was one of Philip's first "hardcore" outings. It was a lot of fun. I'm hoping to be out at Desoto more often in the coming weeks. Things are picking up nicely there, and the low tides are bringing a lot of opportunities.

I was off axis to the sun, which created the shadow running out of the frame. I'm not sure if I wouldn't have gotten the same pose if I was right on axis. Give and take.

    Shooting Solution
    Camera: Nikon D200
    Lens: Nikon 600 f/4
    Manual Exposure, 1/2500 @ f/5.6
ISO 400, Wimberley II head on Giottos legs

    Thanks for looking!

Comments welcome and much appreciated :)

ycnh juvies are super subjects.........even to the point of being inquisitive like little shorebirds.
I really like the monotone tan hues in this one

THis is beautiful, and a bit comical all at the same time. WOuld you object to getting rid of the shadow?

Love the look and eye. You did well with the angle for such harsh light.

I wouldn't object, but if I were someone else looking at the image I'd ask myself, "how can there be no shadow?"... I know from the catchlight the sun was high and to the left, and at the shooting angle the image was made, a shadow should be visible :) Thanks for asking, Grace!
