The strong light and what ever he rolled in has given him an almost platinum sheen so the strong contrast may not be to everyone's taste, but I haven't posted in a while so this is just an 'end of the year' farewell image.

Have a great Christmas and New Year, happy photo gathering.

A handsome beast Hilary (the Rhino that is and the contrast isn't an issue for me. I like the description of him having a 'plantinum' look. Nice detail & form, but I do find the subject a little tight in frame and not sure about the colour of the water, looks a little too blue to me? Thought you might have gone for a different approach to the medium used.

Couldn't resist Hilary, happy to delete, Tri-tone, then converted with a Selenium tint.
Have a great Xmas and look forward to seeing some new stuff from the trip in January, good luck.

Very nice image. I like the OP and Steve's repost. Would love to see a bit more room on the right for him to walk into. I like the walking pose and the HA and the water. The light is a bit harsh but doesn't bother me at all. A wonderful moment that has been well captured,
    Gail

Interesting that the b&w maintains the metallic look of the rhino which I like.

The blue of the water was real, I didn't add any saturation but because the sky was so blue I can only think that it was reflected colour.

No space lhs or rhs, I'm afraid. He was pretty close.

I don't post much here because I do like to 'do' stuff to my images which is not considered acceptable here.
But sometimes it's fun just to throw something in the mix.

Hope I get something worth sharing in January.

Thanks Gail for the comments much appreciated.

Hilary - nice walking pose with mud shoes and I do like the color of the rhino. He looks a bit thin with all those ribs showing. Nice textures too. As the others said a bit tight in the frame but not a major problem for me. I prefer the color version.

TFS, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year,
    Rachel

Such unique "skin tone", I love it. Lke metallic, fits him perfectly. The deep color of the grass and water add to it overall. Steve's monotone works good for me but still like the original and its contrast with color. And FWIW, your techs look perfect to me. A little more space, but you know that (easy to do).
January? On safari? Kenya? Lucky you!!!! Merry Christmas to you and Yours.

Thanks Rachel and Tom. Hope you all have had a wonderful Christmas day (well, we've just about finished ours).

Tom, Tanzania this time. Itinerary on ST.

I think the high contrast is perfect here. Color version preferable to me. B&W will work but the highlights need to be controled - in Steve's post they are blown and/or detailess. I agree that 100mm would have been perfect frame here.

He does look metallic. Color version looks good to me. Although tight, its not overly so and shows the habitat and provides some nice details for examining the animal.

It doesn't look too contrasty to me, and I like the OP better than the B&W.
I like almost any Rhino photo. I agree that it is a bit tight and would have like a bit more environment
but it is very well done as usual.

Interesting "sheen" here, and it works well as presented (though a tad more room would've been nice ).
I like where Steve was headed with the B&W, though the whites are a tad hot as Robert pointed out.
Good IQ all around here, Hilary!

Having a look at my original raw file, I think I could follow Steve's recipe and get a nice b&w image without the hot spots. Not sure that I have time before flying out, but maybe one to remember for the cold winter months.

    Hi Hilary,
Unique skin tone and textures. Good H/A and pose. A little space in front would be nice.
