Default Grass Wren in the Falklands

It's amazing, wherever you find a wren they seem to be singing. And so was this grass wren on a fence post on Carcass Island in the Falklands. As we were walking up a steep hill we saw the wren on the post and slowly walked forward until we were perhaps 6 - 8 feet away. It kept singing the whole time, slightly backlit but with enough light to capture the wonderful pattern in it's feathers.

    Comments welcomed.

I think it is a wonderful capture but the image does not look sharp to me. I wonder if something has happened during resizing or compression, given the techs I would have thought the image was sharp. I am not convinced it is subject movement (but it may be in part) because the post doesn't look as sharp as I would have expected either.

I thought the perch was overpowering the bird so I took a crack at an alternate crop. Also sharpened the bird some more. What do you think?

I love the singing pose, raised tail and the perch as in the OP. I agree that a bit of sharpening around the eye and head would really improve the image. Very nice BG as well.

Lovely wren shot, Linda. I think James' repost really improves it and puts the proper emphasis on the bird, as well as fixing the needed sharpness issue.

Thanks everyone. I agree that I could do some additional sharpening on the head but think that it may be a bit of a problem with conversion for the web. The raw image looks sharper to me.

As for the crop, I prefer to see the entire top of the fence post. It gives an indication of just what the perch was and it has texture that I think adds to the image. I had tried various crops but prefer to include the entire top of the post. It is a tiny bird and it gives a sense of it's size in the OP in my opinion.
