    Default Branches of Light

This started out as an image of a reed-type plant I don't know the name of. Did an inversion and hue adjustment, then flipped it a couple of times and overlapped two layers. Used twirl in the PP Distort filters. Added a bit of PB oil. Liked the interwoven look and glow to the branches. It started to remind me a little bit like dendrites, which are the branch like parts of neurons. Decided to add the flares of light with soft eraser to convey neural activity. Finally added a violet photo filter and a bit of warming with color balance.

Wonderful and imaginative image, Brendan! Those flares are perfect and add an electric energy to the "nerves".

Really a cool composition! I like how you transformed the reeds and it works well with the dark bg. The flares add a lot to the image. Excellent creativity!

ps... it reminded me of Transwarp conduit in the Borg space

I just looked that up Indranil, I see what you mean.

Though that may be sci-fi, I'm always facinated by some of the visual similarities there are between inner and outer space.
Check out this picture of the Eagle Nebula from NASA (7000 light years away from earth), this is described as a kind of star embryo and nursery, but to me it also looks like something you might see under a microscope or under water. Really sparks one's sense of wonder. http://www.nasaimages.org/luna/servl...e-Eagle-Nebula

Wow! Hard to imagine the humble origins of this but your neurons were at warp speed of creativity . The colors and lines are amazing.

Here's an un-inverted version which I think looks kind of interesting:

Nice to see what you started with. Super creative end image and I do like the green and gold version as well.
