    Default Spotted Hyena Cub

We came across a den next to the road early one morning during our trip to the Kruger National Park in August 2011. Overcast weather kept away the sweet morning light.

    Techs:
    Nikon D3s with Nikkor 500mm f4 VR-II
    f4.0 @ 1/800 SS @ ISO-6400
Very slight crop from top and RHS

Morkel - I like the even tones of this and the sweet bokeh. ISO 6400, wow! You really are liking that new toy, huh?

Great detail at those high ISO settings, really impressive. Love the look this Hyena gave you and a fantastic BG TFS

Sweet image, great dof and the look on the cub's face is very nice. Won't comment on the high ISO performance as I'm just too jealous!

The IQ is superb and that was before I noticed the ISO was 6400! Amazing camera. I like the pose , fluffy clean fur and lovely HA. Hard to believe something so cute can become such a predator!

6400? It looks great and I like the coy pose.

Incredible image Morkel based on the techs. Love the detail and subtle tones/colours of the Hyena. How much NR did you apply to the BG, just wonder if it needs easing off a tad, WDYT?

Thanks for the kind comments, folks. Glad you enjoyed it. I am enjoying the extra "time" the D3s allows me to photograph effectively in the golden hours.

Steve - did about 2 rounds of slight NR, might revisit and do less if it bothers
