Low light and slow SS, but I liked this one taken today.

Not bad! I like the topside view and nice colours to the wings. Plenty sharp as posted fro the low light and speedy subject. The whites are a bit on the bright side, with surely a bit more deatil to be extracted from. I'd also darken the pupil of the eye as it seems hazy as is. Nice BG and comp.

Pretty good sharpness for the SS Dan. I like the top view and subtle colours on the bird's back. Yes, the eye looks a bit hazy and the whites in the wing are blown. Good comp.for me. Maybe a couple of degrees of CW rotation?

Killer pose and sharp enough. But there is a 20X better image in there waiting to be released For the repost: pulled the curve up, NIK Color Efex Pro recipe as described in detail here + some Details Extractor, plus Eye Doctor work. Plus some sharpening....

Love the pose you caught him in. Arties repost gives a good reference to work with from the raw file. Well done. TFS

    Dan:

Good comments and repost above. Like the basic image, needs some retooling. Would def. go back to the raw file and reconvert it to see if you can pull out more detail from the whites. This is one where a combined image with one exposed for the whites and a second for the rest, should really help.

    Cheers

I was already working on a repost before I saw Artie's. I tried to fix the following issues: too dark, too contrasty, not warm enough, a little too much canvas at the top and bottom. Here's my version. I do like the topside view!

Thanks Doug, here is my re-work, I wanted to look at them side to side for my own benefit
to see if my PP skills are getting any better. i can't fix the whites, they are just blown from the slow SS, I think.
Thanks again to you and Arthur for your critiques, time and advice.

    I
think I went too bright, but it is an improvement to my eyes from the OP.

Hey Dan, great dorsal view, which in turn is showing off the colours nicely. The BG really compliments the Wigeon. Its interesting to see the different reposts from the guys above, and you yourself have also reposted a better version than your OP.

Great topside and both reposts are an improvement. I really like the feather detail and colors in the wings
