Default Loss of sharpness on resize - Lightroom

    Hi all,

I currently dont have photoshop to do my post processing, so I'm solely using Lightroom 3 for everything. My current process is that I adjust the image then export as a TIFF file and resize during this process. When I look at the image however, it has lost its sharpness. To get overthis, I have to re-import the TIFF back into Lightroom and reshapen again and save as a jpg to make the image look ok.

I guess my question is, is this the correct workflow or is there a better way of making sure sharpness is kept. I'd really appreciate your advice.

    Thanks

    Simon

    Hi Simon,

Resizing in any program causes loss of apparent sharpness, so it is natural to then apply an unsharp mask to the resampled image.

I've been using Perfect Resize formerly known as Genuine Fractals with great results for resizing pictures after processing is completed. As Roger noted any program causes loss of apparent sharpness but I've found this program to be the best for me at maintaining sharpness for enlargements. There is a free DEMO.

    Simon,

sharpening needs to occur after the image is re-sized, re-rezed to its output medium.

See this thread - sounds like you problem and some suggestions by others.
