    Hi
Image created in Savegre some 2 2.5 km up the hill from Savegre Mountain Lodge; this is a secret place where the Quetzals dance so close

Its 6 am and I walked the distance just as dawn broke; reaching the place I waited for a few minutes, then, POW right in front and in full view
the rest is now a series of pics!

good job I had my tripod!

    f5.6 FL 280 SS 1/50!poor light/cross Ev 0
    7D 100-400

Worked on it a fair bit burn out bright spots etc, NR and sharpen, rotated a little
a moment to remember for sure

    C&C WELCOME

Congrats on getting this guy so close, in perfect pose, with full length visible. Light on the bird looks good to me. Nice comp. A great moment, for sure! Only wish, in a perfect world, would be for the BG to be a little less busy and the end of the tail to stand out better. But just to get him as nicely as this is a real coup. I saw one at just about the same spot on the road last year, but mine perched further back and my poor shot lacks the good IQ of this one.

    Hi Bill

    Thanks for posting

BG is busy but nowhere to run, this is the most unobliging environment as you know

I have more so stay tuned; seldom do they show like this.
Did you get Long tailed Silky in the area by any chance?

thanks for posting; maybe one of the gurus can advise me on better PP to get the tail visibly clearer.....posting part of a burst of shots hope OK with mods, this one processed slightly differently

I got to see the Long-tailed Silky, just up the road a bit. But he was perched on the other side of the road, in the early morning with the sun right behind him. So all I got was a terrible record shot.

Looking forward to more of yours.

Nice head angle and of course, bird. Sharp. Something between the two posts would work for me as the repost is too light. I'd evict the vertical stick to our right of the bird if it were mine.

Nice image Richard! I will be there in a month and hope I am as lucky to find one. I like the long tail, HA and pose.

The bird is a delight. The BG wasn't your choice but maybe you could darken some of the brighter spots even morethanyou did.

Striking natural history documentation. The original image is preferred. Although I've only used the technique sparingly, you may consider my previously mentioned lasso tool approach on the background here.

Thanks all, will have another look lots to work on

Jim - good luck, plenty around (near Los Lagos) getting them clear is another story but if anyone can you will get one, try early 6-8 as they tend to go forest side later on; wish I was able to join you

Bill - Nice you saw the LTS it eluded me, of course always sits high in the trees!

Bob point me to your "lasso" if you have time please

A nice habitat shot of this beauty! An impressive processing and I like the OP.

    Thanks Ofer

Well I went back to the raw
removed some sticks and bright spots using heal with CA, and clone.
lightened reds a little and tried to set shade between the 2 previous posts
NR red with Topaz to the BG using layer mask, as was sharpening, so sharpened bird only
let me know what you think guys/gals

Richard I think the latest is a big improvement, prefer the overall brighter image, you caught the tail very well.
