The Blue-winged Kookaburra occurs in the north of Australia in coastal and near inland regions of Queensland, Northern Territory and Western Australia. Birds in Backyards has a fact page at : http://birdsinbackyards.net/species/Dacelo-leachii that covers fully the biology of this species. It eats insects , fish, crayfish, snakes and fish. The Laughing Kookaburra the second of our two Kookaburras is also covered by Birds in Back at : http://birdsinbackyards.net/species/Dacelo-novaeguineae and is found throughout much of Queensland, New South Wales , Victoria and eastern South Australia naturally . However Tasmania and in south-western Western Australia there are thriving populations that have been introduced... another misguided introduction.

OMG what sort of bird this is ? Excellent colors. sharp features.

Just that the brown band behind neck is a point of lil distraction.

Great species and background Rod. Lots of good detail in the image and nice exposure of the blues. I might like a bit more room on left.

Rod, this is why we photograph birds, don't we? great colors and details. I like that head turn a lot. also the exposure and BG. I also think some more room on top will help here.

What a cool looking bird. Good detail and colors. I am ok with your choice of presentation. If I were to suggest anything, it would be to tone down the bright green in the lower right hand corner as it draws my attention away from the beautiful bird. Very nice and thanks for sharing.

Excellent image Rod! I like the sharpness, details, pose and HA. Some good suggestions above to make it even better.

Wicked bird. Wicked sharp. A nice pose and head angle. Bad luck on the non-homogeneous background behind the bird.... If it works for you they could be smoothed out with a bit of work.

Lovely image of this stunning bird Rod! I have no problem with the BG as it is nice and OOF - looks perfectly natural and makes the bird stand out. If anything - bird is maybe a bit big in the frame.
