Mating of Lions
Mating of Lions at South Luangwa, Zambia. We had been following this pair for about 2 days. They were mating for about 15-20 seconds in one go, resting for about 15-20 minutes and then mating again. This was going on for 3 days. Took this shot on the 2nd day at 8:10 AM on September 16, 2011. We also had to hurry as a small herd of rogue elephants were approaching and our safari guide advised us to move away fast.
60D, Sigma 70-300mm @238mm, 1/640s, f/6.3, ISO-160, Ap. prio.

Thanks for C&C.

Prabir,
Very nice, not to sure I have ever seen them mating in such an open area, I wonder if it might be worth trying to selectively lighten the females eyes.

Thanks Ken. I have seen this pair mating behind a bush also. They had been moving in the park for 3 days.
And as suggested I have made the changes in the shot in my archive.
Thanks again.

It is great to see them in the open like this...
I too wish you included all the tail but know it sometimes is tricky - given you were at 238mm you could possible have zoomed out some?

Egil, Morkel - thanks a lot for your observations and comments.
Yes, next time, I have to take a little care while shooting.
