I was lucky to come across this gorgeous male lion in the Kalahari last week. He was lying close to the road, roaring to make his domain known. He was without scars or blemishes, with a full flowing mane.

Not to say I don't like them with 'battle scars' (it does tell you something of their life)...I just enjoyed the beauty of this dude.

    Techs:
    Nikon D3s with Nikkor 500mm f4 VR-II + 1.4x teleconverter @ 700mm
    f8.0 @ 1/500 SS @ ISO-640
99% full frame (slight crop from bottom)

    Morkel,

What a magnifent Lion this is, what a pity he was partially in the shade, but I suppose you cannot blame him

A fine male in his prime indeed Morkel, very well depicted, even for the shade conditions.

Great looking male and you handled the light well.

Personally I am not the biggest fan of dapple light, though this works well.

Morkel - very majestic male and a good hair day with his mane standing up like that . I don't mind the light and shade.

    Rachel
