I really like the contrast between the warm light on the bird and the cooler background colors.

    Wow, what a great BG!
Very nice getting the Crane lit up against that sky and very sharp for 1/800.

Artie, one heck of a shot. talk about pop. stunning. sharpness, exposure and of course the light and Bg are excellent.

However, I am afraid the blue patch does not work for me. If mine, I'd crop from top.

Interesting that evaluative at 0 worked. 1D is smart. with 40D, I'd have had to subtract light.

Hi Artie, The Crane really pops against that sky I do find my eye moving towards that patch of blue on the top and would be tempted to crop it out going even more Pano. wonder what others think.

Thanks all so far . I love the contrasting patch of blue but wish it were farther to the right. I may try to move it....

Same with Nikon bodies. The MIII and IV and the 7D are all notoriously "dark" bodies. The important thing is to know your own gear. Except if you are a tour leader--then you gotta know everybody's gear .

An Interesting image indeed storm clouds in the background with beautiful light on the Crane, never seen anything like it, very refreshing. Love it. The patch of Blue has me undecided. I like it very much as is, but find myself wanting to see it without as well...

    Artie:

I really like the feeling of him running before the storm, with nice warm light on the bird and dark threatening clouds. The pupil may be a bit too much for my taste.

The blue patch fits with the sense of a storm rolling in and blocking out the blue, but I can certainly see the image both ways.

Sharp, well exposed, nice underwing detail.

Guess I am going to have to make it to Bosque.

    Cheers

Hi Artie, I like the gliding pose of the crane, together with the detail and colours, that make it pop nicely from the darker BG. Im fine with the dark blue part of the sky, but finding myself wanting to move the crane higher in the frame. He seems to be coming into land, thus wanting to allow more space infront.

I like the background colors, bird is in beautiful light and nice angle to the camera. Maybe position him a little higher in the frame.
