Default Monitoring Calibration / Colorspace / Photoshop

    Hi everyone,

I recently purchased a new laptop. I also calibrated the screen on my new laptop using X-Rite ColorMunki Display, which set the new profile as the default instead the sRGB colorspace that came with the laptop.
Currently, the laptop uses the calibrated colorspace profile, but my Photoshop is using sRGB as the working colorspace, and I don't really have to do any conversion if I save for web viewing (sRGB). I would like to know in Photoshop, do I need to set the working colorspace to the profile created by ColorMunki and edit my photos there, then afterward "convert" to sRGB profile for the web or Adobe RGB for printing?

Your comments and advices are much appreciated.

    Raymond

profiles and color spaces are two different things a profile will take into account whatever color space you are using.

    Thanks Don!

What I am interested to know is, if the monitor calibration program created say for example "calibration.icm" and set it as default instead of sRGB IEC61966-2.1. In the Color Settings of Photoshop, should I use Monitor RGBto edit the photo, then after all the editing, convert to sRGB or Adobe RGB before saving the final image file?

    Thanks,
    Raymond

I am a little confused your profile will not set a color space for your monitor PS will read what ever color space is tagged to the image when it enters PS. The color space will be assigned by the camera if shooting jpeg and by the RAW converter if shooting Raw. If shooting Raw just assigned the sRGB space in the Raw conversion software you are using. You can also change the color space anytime you want in PS by going to Edit scrolling down to convert to profile (do not use assigned profile) pick the color space from the destination tab and hit ok. Adobe confuses the matter a bit here but using the term profile while in fact were really talking about color space.

I think you believe profiles and color spaces are the same thing when they are not here are some articles that explain them better then I can.
