I have been back from Botswana for just under a week now. We had some fantastic sightings, helped by the particularly dry and hot November.

This is the third cycle of cubs I have seen this female produce, which is always a delight. If they make it to adulthood, it will be 9 new cheetah in just over 4 years.

    Taken in the Kwara Concession

    1D mark IV
    70-200 @ 70mm
    1/1600 @ F5
    ISO640

Cropped by about 10%, with some slight S/H work.

Great low perspective here Russell, up on a mound perhaps, or were you low to the ground or vehicle? Love the inquisitive open mouth expression. What a great mum she must be!

Russell - great pov and comp. At 70mm you were close too. I'm also curious if this was shot from a vehicle.

Hi Russell, fantastic work and great POV.

Position in frame, the stance and lovely expression really makes this one stand out. On reflection, comparing this to your previous posting I just wonder if it needs a little boost as I know you like your punchy colour.

I thought there was a slight blueness coming through in the lighter tones of the coat and would suggest opening up a little on the eyes, although subtle i just wonder if this moves the image forward, WDYT?

Colour balance, H/S, Selective colour (neutrals), Col Bal again added -2, 0, +7 to the highlight, Sat +5 on the grass & eyes. Not sure if this helps, but good to have you back posting.

Thanks for repost & help Steve and Ken.

Here is one more attempt. I have opened up the shadows more in this instance. A subtle difference

Thanks, Marc. Lets just say we were on a walking safari

I was flat on the ground for this image.

    Thanks, Rachel.

My camera says the cub was 2.3 metres away......The shot was taken from ground level.

Ken - the rains came in the last week that we were there. We had over 70mm in one night at Kwara, and the dry crossings filled with water again.

Mum was watching, though completely relaxed. She is hanging around at Four Rivers so used to seeing people on foot from the walking camp there.

A fantastic POV here Russel...got to love those eyes when the light hits them properly!
I too notice the blue (even slightly magenta?) cast on your OP. Your repost still has hints of it IMHO. I like both Steve and Ken's attempts, though I tend to like my images a tad warmer than most so Ken's gets my vote...

Eager to see more from your trip...

Beautiful shot, I can't add to the above.
I like what Steve did to pull out a little more of the color of the eyes.
