    Default Spotted Sandpiper

I photographed this Spotted Sandpiper back in Spring with the help of a friend here locally, This particular bird took up residence within a small puddle area along a ball field here in Northern Ohio, The bird was low in the grasses so A rock was used in hopes the bird would jump up on the rock allowing a better view and allowing some images. Things happened to work out this time around!

Lovely image! Sharp, nice detail, sweet soft light, colours and BG - well done for the rock trick!

Fantastic image of this species. Would work just as well as a vertical also. Great light and BG.

Hi Dan, not only did he oblige to perch on your rock, but he gave you a good pose too. Good detail and colour on the sandpiper, and I like the BG too. If this were mine, I would move him to the left a tad more. I agree, a vertical wont harm this either.

Great BG and head turn. IQ is excellent. I would like to see this as a vertical as well,

IMHO a vertical will only weaken this image especially since the bird is looking to the right and also because BG and perch are so nice. If anything a slight crop off the top and bottom but definitely not a vertical.

Gorgeous portrait you got here, Dan. Love love that BG and the rock and the view of the feet. Superbly done. Love the comp as is. Great job on the rock placement! I've noticed how much this species likes to stand on rocks.

Nice simple setup here Dan - really just three elements - BG, bird, rock. So there is strong focus on the subject. I love the species and really like your presentation. I was also thinking vertical so played around with some vertical crops on my monitor. On balance I think I like it as presented best. Great techs too!

Dan, good quick thinking. It has worked perfectly. The pose, the eye level shooting angle, exposure...everything is terrific here. Best part is the BG. In fact I'd like more of it included on the right side( unless there are distractions there). To me, this is a perfect candidate for rule-of-thirds comp.

I appreciate everyone's comments very Much... Thank you, Being a HUGE fan of vertical crops...I tried it here and thought it hurt this particular image so elected to stay with this.

I have many frames of this bird in all sorts of positions with different compositions, I chose to display this as I felt it presented well in a web presence., Its always nice when a subject cooperates. I will post a lil different version in another thread perhaps!

Thanks for the comments and suggestions.

    Dan

Nice HA on this guy Dan. The rock he is perched upon really adds a different element to this image. The lichen on it goes nicely with the BG as well. Great colors on the breast of him.

    Dan:

Very well captured, great techs, angle if frame BG.

If mine, I would smooth the one vertical line in the BG in front of the bill and try a version with a bit off the left as others have suggested.

Look forward to the other versions

    Cheers
