Jonathan, I like the behavioral aspect of this image. The wide-open orange beak really grabs your attention, and communicates the emotion of the young bird waiting for its next meal. I like the way the tern is kicking up water as it walks along the beach. I'd probably remove some of the dark and light debris from the beach, as I find them distracting.

Hi Jon, the different layers of feathers really jump out me in this. Good DOF on both the tern and incoming wave for F/6.3, and overall you have nailed the sharpness. I like the placement of the Tern as is, and some may say there is too much space in front, but sometimes space adds to the image - I like it. Well timed to capture the screaming beak, and my eye keeps being drawn to those few droplets center left - they seem out of place there.

Its always challenging to make a good image midday --note the shadows falling directly down from the bill and under the bird. Consider earlier in the morning or later in the day. You might also consider cropping - the bird is fairly small in the frame, unless of course you consider the waves as a key element.

Lovely pose you got here Jonathan. I would take a bit off the right and clean up the beach a bit. Otherwise, looks good except you need to get up earlier!!I will gladly send you an alarm clock!!

PS Thanks for the link on sharpening. I have used it on my last 3 pics and I think it is excellent

Like the calling out pose you captured, Johnathan, good job managing the light. Good suggestions above.
