Very cute looking mini-horse on a ranch just outside the mountain town of Julian. There was a nice breeze blowing her mane. Real sweet and friendly. CS5, PB oil

Brendan, Sweet girl indeed! She is adorable and the filtering really adds a nice touch-well done. I wonder if a slice off the right might look good.

When I looked at this, I played around a bit with composition -- just part of a self-study project. I ended up cropping from the right to about the start of the mane and from the top just a bit into the highest part of the forelock (or mane -- can't tell which for sure). It put the viewer a lot closer to the action, and I liked that -- especially with those intent eyes, which seemed to be looking right at me.

Nice capture, and I do like the PB OilPaint effect, too.

Brendan, she looks absolutely dazzling with the treatment ! The original capture with the wind blown mane is very nicely enhanced by your choice of processing. Very well done.
    So what is PB oil?

Much thanks for the comments and suggestions. Here's a repost with crop off right and top.

John, Pixel Bender (PB) is a free Photoshop filter plug-in you can download from Adobe Labs.
    http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/pixelbenderplugin/
It has a variety of different settings to allow you to distort & transform images.
The "Oil" setting (PB Oil) is what I used here, and is very popular here at OOTB forum. As with Topaz and other filters, just move the sliders around until you get the desired effect and look you want.

Totally darling! As others have said, the PB Oil is perfect. The nose & eyes really bring this mini to life, I can just see those nostrils breathing with exertion. I like the tighter crop.

Brendan, I like the tighter crop but maybe just a hair less tight. This is so adorable! Everytime I look at her I smile

    Thanks, Nancy, Denise & Andrew

Denise, I think that is one of the best compliments when I hear I made someone smile. Your last horse image was soooo good, made me smile and was definitely an inspiration to do the PB treatment on this cute one. I was just looking at some footage of wild horses running - they really seem to epitomize the feeling of freedom so well.

    Brendan,

I'm a bit late here. I like the crop, but would not have taken quite so much off the top. I think a true portrait format would be optimal. All that aside, this is a great looking horse. You captured the expression and pose so well.................great shot.
