This is a ground shot from this fall. I considered using it as a Sept.- Oct. camouflage theme image. D3s, Nikkor 600mm, 1.4TC, f5.6, 1/2500, iso 640, matrix, beanbag on truck window, clear early evening. PP CS5 sizeable crop, approx. 40 % of original. Minor changes with levels, curves, hue/sat, selective color, usm subject and noise reduction bg. C & C appreciated.

This is very nice....good pose and head angle, the focus seems to be on the head/eye. The sharpness seems to be good despite the cropping. Would have been even better if the tail wasn't obscured by branches. I think a little more blur or noise reduction on the out of focus BG elements would help too.

    Gary,

I photography these guys every winter and hard to get a close shot. I usually need a large crop and that hurts the image quality. In this case the shot looks good for all the focal length and large crop. I like the techs too, nice job shooting wide open for a fast shutter. Given the situation you did all you could do, nice head angle and regal pose. The habitat is complementary with nice earth tones and subtle colors. As Joel mentioned looks like you had the focal point on the head and that requires a steady hand assuming you used center sensor. Thanks for posting and keep em coming.

Lovely look-back pose; nice sharp head and good exposure. I suppose another stop down might have put more of the back in focus, but then the BG would have been more distracting. So all in all, this very nicely captured.
